Continuum mechanics for quantum many-body systems: Linear response regime

چکیده
We derive a closed equation of motion for the current density of an inhomogeneous quantum many-body system under the assumption that the time-dependent wave function can be described as a geometric deformation of the ground-state wave function. By describing the many-body system in terms of a single collective field we provide an alternative to traditional approaches, which emphasize one-particle orbitals. We refer to our approach as continuum mechanics for quantum many-body systems. In the linear response regime, the equation of motion for the displacement field becomes a linear fourth-order integrodifferential equation, whose only inputs are the one-particle density matrix and the pair-correlation function of the ground state. The complexity of this equation remains essentially unchanged as the number of particles increases. We show that our equation of motion is a Hermitian eigenvalue problem, which admits a complete set of orthonormal eigenfunctions under a scalar product that involves the ground-state density. Further, we show that the excitation energies derived from this approach satisfy a sum rule which guarantees the exactness of the integrated spectral strength. Our formulation becomes exact for systems consisting of a single particle and for any many-body system in the high-frequency limit. The theory is illustrated by explicit calculations for simple oneand two-particle systems.

Linear continuum mechanics for quantum many-body systems.
We develop the continuum mechanics of quantum many-body systems in the linear response regime. The basic variable of the theory is the displacement field, for which we derive a closed equation of motion under the assumption that the time-dependent wave function in a locally comoving reference frame can be described as a geometric deformation of the ground-state wave function. We show that this ...
متن کاملLinear response theory in stochastic many-body systems revisited
The Green-Kubo relation, the Einstein relation, and the fluctuation-response relation are representative universal relations among measurable quantities that are valid in the linear response regime. We provide pedagogical proofs of these universal relations for stochastic many-body systems. Through these simple proofs, we characterize the three relations as follows. The Green-Kubo relation is a...
متن کاملMany-body Scattering Theory of Electronic Systems
This work reviews recent advances in the analytical treatment of the continuum spectrum of correlated few-body non-relativistic Coulomb systems. The exactly solvable two-body problem serves as an introduction to the non-separable three-particle system. For the latter case we discuss the existence of an approximate separability of the long and the short-range dynamics which is exposed in an appr...
متن کاملElectromechanical Performance of NEMS Actuator Fabricated from Nanowire under quantum vacuum fluctuations using GDQ and MVIM
The Casimir attraction can significantly interfere the physical response of nanoactuators. The intensity of the Casimir force depends on the geometries of interacting bodies. The present paper is dedicated to model the influence of the Casimir attraction on the electrostatic stability of nanoactuators made of cylindrical conductive nanowire/nanotube. An asymptotic solution, based on path-integr...
متن کاملEvaluation of continuum damage at different temperatures for aluminum-silicon alloy of engine piston within low-cycle fatigue regime
In this article, the isothermal low-cycle fatigue continuum damage in the engine piston aluminum alloy has been evaluated at different temperatures. For this objective, experimental data of low-cycle fatigue tests on standard specimens were used at 280, 350 and 425°C. Based on the continuum damage mechanics method, the fatigue damage was calculated during cyclic loading. Obtained results, inclu...
